Casement windows

Timeless windows, built for Scottish weather

A casement window is hinged at the side and opens outward, giving a clean, uninterrupted view and excellent ventilation. Found on cottages, villas and period homes throughout Scotland, it is one of the most versatile window styles we make.

Every timber casement window from Hilston & Bennett is built to your exact sizes in our own workshop, using responsibly sourced hardwoods and engineered softwoods chosen to stand up to the Scottish climate. We supply homeowners, architects, builders and joiners across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth and the rest of central Scotland.

Choosing the right window

Casement or sash and case?

Sash and case windows slide vertically and are the traditional choice for Scottish tenements and townhouses. Casement windows hinge outward and often suit cottages, villas, extensions and homes where the original windows were casements.

In a listed building or conservation area, the right answer is usually to match the original style. We can advise on this when you get in touch, and can make both in matching profiles and finishes.

Casement window questions

Can’t see your question? Call us on 01324 612 704 or read our full FAQs.

Can I have timber casement windows in a listed building or conservation area?

Yes. We specialise in windows for listed buildings and conservation areas across Scotland. Replacement windows should keep the same appearance as the originals, and we design ours to suit local authority requirements while giving you better performance.

What glazing options are available for casement windows?

We offer single and double glazing, including heritage slim double glazing, which improve thermal efficiency without spoiling the look of a period window.

How long do bespoke casement windows take?

Lead times depend on the size and complexity of your order, but manufacturing typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. Installation is then booked at a time that suits you.

Do you offer a supply-only service?

Yes. We supply bespoke timber casement windows to homeowners, builders and joiners who prefer to arrange their own installation, as well as offering a full supply and fit service.

What guarantee do your windows come with?

Our timber windows come with a 10-year guarantee, provided they are maintained regularly, and ironmongery has a 5-year guarantee against manufacturing defects.

Can my windows be a different colour inside and out?

Yes. Windows come with an anti-stain primer as standard, and we can paint them in one colour or in two different colours inside and out.
